What is SECAWAN?

Secawan is a company that sells coffee, tea, and pastries to its consumers. It also runs a charity that receives a percentage of profits from purchases.

Purpose

The purpose of this project was to translate a physical brand to a web presence. This includes features that link back to physical stores, such as online ordering and donations to its charity.

Users and Audience

The target audience for Secawan is women from the ages of 25 to 45. Two proto personas were made for the website, Beverly Smith, a user outside the company, and Emily Daphne Williams, a product manager within Secawan.

Scope and Constraints

The project’s scope was very long. Its development consisted of refining the Secawan brand over half a semester to later finalize the website another half semester later. The brand was print based, so many things needed to be changed for web accessibility, such as color palettes, logos, and assets.

Process

First, sketches were done to get a visual on what the website would look like. This website layout was then tested on classmates to see which was most suitable for the final product and to gain user experience testing feedback for the site.

Second, we studied templates to model the website off WordPress, accessing the limitations to each one.

Once we found a suitable template to use, I worked on finalizing the website using a piece of Secawan we worked on last semester, the website homepage, as a reference.

I added a homepage, a menu, a checkout screen, and a charity page to the website to satisfy the needs of the brand for their website. After some final polishing of its looks, I was finished.

SECAWAN Website

Case Study

Lessons Learned

The lesson learned from this project was how to handle a large-scale project that involved reworking a brand and building a website catered to the brand’s users. This project was long and difficult, but I feel much more confident about undertaking another problem like this.

My Role

My role was to create a website that catered to the needs of the proto personas, a website that could efficiently promote and sell Secawan’s products. I collaborated with my classmates and professor to receive feedback during the site’s development.
